Searching for Resources

General Searching

  • For resources: enter your search terms into the main page search bar. The main search bar returns a list of resources, data sources, literature, and communities where your searched term(s) matched.

    • Search under the Data tab to find data related to your searching terms.

  • For communities: type into the search bar under the Communities tab.

  • If searching from the Resources tab: Searching from the Resources tab supplies a list of resources. Beneath each resource are three tabs:

    • SciCrunch:Registry (#) shows you a table view of the returned resources. This is a view of the registry. The number in the parentheses is the total number of resources returned from your search.

    • Cite This provides a URL and RRID with which to cite the resource.

    • View Source Information provides a description of the resource’s source and the license and terms of use of using the source’s resource.

  • If searching from the Data tab: Searching through Data supplies a list of databases which contain resources that match the searched terms. NjP9dlUJPhfKFMVvil84lYAxF5y6-iBtJXS-vUli

    • The number in parentheses next to the data source is the number of resources in the database that are related to the search terms. The searched terms may be included from any field in SciCrunch.

      • Ex) Searching “NSF” will get many hits in the SciCrunch: Registry data source because it can be found in descriptions, funding information, resource names, etc.

    • Clicking on the data source will give you a table of all of the resources in the database. Users can click on the gear on the far right of the grey header to expand the number of columns shown, expand into full screen mode, or download a number of results.

      • Users can narrow the results using the “Facets” column on the left hand side of the page. Facets that were added can be deleted from the “Current Facets” list above “Facets.”

      • Users can also expand the query by clicking on the “Query Expansion” drop down menu and adding or removing antonyms and/or synonyms.
